The study aims at identifying the influence of the problem-focused coping strategy on academic stress decrease of VIII Grade students in junior high schools. The study is a quantitative research using quasi-experimental design with non-equivalent control group design. During the conduct of the study, the population of the participants was 180 students and the samples were gathered from the population by means of purposive sampling technique. The total number of the sample was 10 students, consisting of 5 students as the members of the experimental group and 5 students as the members of the control group. Then, the instrument that had been implemented in the group was the academic stress scale. On the other hand, the data analysis technique that had been implemented in the study was the non-parametric statistics namely the Wilcoxon test. The results of the study show that the problem-focused coping strategy has influence on academic stress decrease with the rate of significance 5% (sig. = 0.042, p < 0.05). Therefore, it might be safely concluded that the problem-focused coping strategy has influence on the academic stress decrease among the Grade VIII students in junior high schools.

The type of the study was a qualitative study and the data were gathered by means of participatory observation. After the data had been gathered, the data were analysed by means of Miles & Huberman qualitative data analysis model. After the study has been conducted, the results show that: (1) the Kindergarten Unit that has served as the research site already has thematic learning about career introduction; (2) the mechanism implementation of the thematic learning has not stimulated the career introduction to the students; (3) the material components of the career introduction have not been in accordance to the knowledge of the ideal career and the needs of the kindergarten students; (4) the readiness of the kindergarten teachers in preparing the learning materials has not been ideal; (5) there have been weaknesses on the media of career introduction which leads to the unideal situations among the kindergarten students; and (6) there should be school support toward the upgrade and the completeness of the thematic learning of the career introduction. Through the conduct of the study, it is expected that the mechanism of ideal career introduction in the school might stimulate information in accordance to the characteristics of the students so that the preferences toward the knowledge of career introduction might be early established for the next period.

Abstract

The study aims at developing the Thinking Actively in Social Contexts (TASC) and the fit manual book for improving the students’ creative thinking skills. Within the conduct of the study, the 4D (Define, Design, Develop and Disseminate) had been adopted. First, the Define stage consisted of curriculum analysis, students’ characteristics analysis, students’ activities analysis and learning objectives and materials analysis. Second, the Design stage consisted of media selection, manual book format design and preliminary product prototype manufacture. Third, the Develop stage consisted of manual book prototype development with expert judgment and development test (limited experiment and expanded experiment). Fourth, the Disseminate stage consisted of manual book distribution after the manual book had been revised by the given party. Then, the results of the study show that both the TASC learning model and the manual book have been fit for improving the students’ creative thinking skills. Based on the post-test results that have been analysed using the gain-score test and the t-test, it might be concluded that the students’ creative thinking skills have fallen into the “High” category. In other words, the TASC learning model provides learning opportunity for the students based on the social context of the farming problems.

Abstract

The study aims at generating a product in the form of Volleyball learning materials CD with the valid and effective TGFU method for the junior high school students. The learning media has been developed by using the Adobe Flash CS 6 Professional. Then, within the conduct of the study, the Research and Development (R&D) Model proposed by Borg & Gall had been adopted with several modifications. Then, the results of the study show that the learning media belongs to the “Very Good” category according to the material expert validation with the mean score 4.38 and that the learning media belongs to the “Very Good” category according to the media expert validation with the mean score 4.23. Furthermore, the results of the limited experiment show that the learning media belongs to the “Very Good” category with the mean score 4.76. Similarly, the results of the expanded experiment show that the learning media belongs to the “Very Good” category with the mean score 4.75. In order to identify the quality and the effectiveness of the product, an operational test should be performed. The results of the operational test show that the pre-test mean score is 41.65 while the post-test mean score is 89.25. The mean score of the students has improved with the gap 47.60 points. Therefore, departing from the overall results, the TGFU method-based learning media has been valid and effective for implementation in the learning activities of Sports and Health Education for the Junior High School degree.
